I read, and I listen and I take in a broad array of content
surrounding the Tour de France.

It’s the best three weeks of the year for a cycling fan.
Without doubt.

However there are elements within the written and audio
media who seem intent on showing how much experience of the race they have by
belittling current editions in favour of races held back in the misty past.

They never seem to indicate which editions of the Tour were
so wonderful and had so much better scenery and so many better set piece camera
shots.

For me 1989 and 1990 were two of the best races in my years
of watching, but how, as a Brit can that be better than watching a home grown
winner?

I think there should be less smarty pants reporting and
wistful gazing back in time and more living in the moment.

The Tour is the Tour. Enjoy it, embrace it and look forward
to the next one.
