These socks are the perfect item for riding both winter and summer.
Monton sent me these to review and I was really keen to get them road tested despite the cold Fenland winter.
They come in a one size fits all pack and I am pleased to say that they do work across a number of shoe sizes from UK 5 to 10. I think that they cover the majority of sizes that men would need.
Sock length is always keenly debated by cyclists and these come up about half way along the calf muscle (ignore my hairy winter legs!) and fit nicely without cutting off circulation in any way.
I used these both on the road and on the turbo trainer to see how they handled varying temperature.
The market is saturated with specialist socks for winter or summer, but I feel that these would manage both extremities.
They were fine for a January ride at 7 degrees Celsius with normal cycling shoes and a waterproof over shoe. There were no issues with freezing feet, which was good!
On the trainer (my attempt to simulate summer conditions) they were perfect and after riding felt comfortable and wearable, despite the puddle of sweat next to my bike.
At about a fiver delivered from Monton, I would suggest getting a couple of pairs to make the shipping cost work. I particularly liked this fluro yellow version as it matches my shoes.
Members of Yaxley Riders will be desperate to see an orange version introduced at some point.
Socks are a pretty uninteresting piece of cycling kit generally and are easy to ignore. The fact that your feet apply the power on the pedals should make them really important and a key part of your kit bag.
